ALOHA WORLD! A NEW VISUALLY STUNNING TRAVEL BLOG

I’m Daphne, which you might’ve guessed from my blog title. And some of you know me, and some of you don’t, and some of you may be wondering…. Why a travel blog, why me, and why now, when there are two million travel bloggers already out there? (Btw, that’s a totally real number that I just made up. Lol)

Well, I absolutely love to travel. I love adventure, and exploring new places. I love having my hair blown back, and my mind blown. I love gasping at unbelievable sights, eating foods that make my tastebuds dance, and meeting awesome people from varied cultures and backgrounds. And I absolutely love taking photos and telling stories of the amazingness I encounter. I see beauty everywhere, and it seems selfish to just keep it for myself.  I’ve read dozens of travel blogs over the years, and they have helped me tremendously when I plan my own trips, and I want to be able to help others plan their future adventures, through the things I’ve seen and learned on my own journeys. I do a lot of planning and research for my trips, and I figure that if I’ve already done all that work, someone else could possibly benefit and it could help make their journey easier.

My blog is just simply about sharing the beauty and joy I’ve been lucky enough to witness firsthand…. telling it like I see it, and showing it through the eyes of my lens. Maybe it will help you plan your own adventures, or maybe it will just give you a glimpse into some of the beauty you didn’t even know was out there.

That’s the main reason. And the other is, …. it’s never too late to do something that makes you feel good! I want to leave my son knowing that, and seeing that his Mom truly lived by those words.

I hope you enjoy the blog. And if not, no problem! Just subscribe and pretend you do, until I write something that you eventually like. 😉

The Musee d’Orsay holds the Works’s largest collec The Musee d’Orsay holds the Works’s largest collection of impressionist artwork, which is one of my favorite styles of painting. I’ve always loved how what seems like mere casual blobs and specks and dots of paint on a canvas can come together to create a scene that invokes palpable movement and emotion. I love how seemingly easy and uncomplicated this genre feels. So I was so excited to be able to see sooo many beautiful pieces all in one place. And what an incredible structure! The Musee d’Orsay, with its famous glass clock that provides an eye to the city, was once a train station in the heart of Paris. It’s a large space, but it feels oddly intimate, with everything centrally connected to the main ‘terminal’. So lovely…..

Took me 50 years to finally explore this city, so… Took me 50 years to finally explore this city, so….. photoshoot! This is our third so far, and it’s always a super fun experience—
It gives me a chance to support local photographers in another city, and I also get to do some personal industry intel— see how others shoot, the direction they give, gear they use, and creative ideas. Our photographer, Roman, @bogruk was awesome! Very easy and fun with lots of great recommendations (like getting hot chocolate and croissants and the famous Parisian café, Carette). And he didn’t mind me asking for a few special signature silly shots that Cisco and I always snap when we travel together…. LOVE
Thanks, Roman!!! ❤️

This is my Mom’s coat and scarf I’m wearing. I act This is my Mom’s coat and scarf I’m wearing. I actually wear a lot of her things, often. Makes me feel like she’s close, and also like I’m honoring her in some little way. I miss her so much. Cisco told me this morning, that I honor her every day, by being a good Mom. It’s the most important lesson she taught me (just by example), and honestly what I live for. And the next pics are one that Cisco snapped of me looking like a crazed muppet, excitedly FaceTiming Lucas to show him the Eiffel Tower. And then of my beautiful boy, of whom I’m so crazy proud. My mom would’ve been too. 🥰 Happy Mother’s Day to all you beautiful, loving, caring Moms, step-Moms, & Mother-in-laws out there. Wishing you the best day! ❤️🫶🏼
Café Culture is definitely a thing in Paris. You d Café Culture is definitely a thing in Paris. You don’t go to a cafe to ‘grab a cup’ of anything. You go to sit, spend time, relax, people watch, and while away the hours. In most of the thousands of cafés around the city, you’ll notice all the chairs do not face each other, but outward— to watch the world go by. It’s their version of phone scrolling, and it’s so much more immersive and lovely! >>>>> (not to mention….. croissants!!)….

The museums in Paris are truly something! Not just The museums in Paris are truly something! Not just for the incredible masterpieces inside, but the actual structures that contain the art, are works of art, themselves. The Louvre is the largest museum in the world, and it’s extraordinary. It feels so opulent and vast in certain parts, and the glass pyramid center of it all, is a stunning central focal point, entrance, and gathering place.
The Louvre is so huge, and contains over 535,000 objects and pieces of art, over 9 miles of corridors!! They say even if you looked at each piece for only a few seconds, it would take you over 100 days to see every piece of art in the museum. We took just a little bit of time to see some of the most famous pieces— the Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory (Nike), Venus di Milo, and Napoleon‘s apartments…..

There is nothing more Parisian than a view over th There is nothing more Parisian than a view over the rooftops of the Eiffel Tower. ✨ I kept expecting to see a whisper of ratatouille scampering across the chimney landscape. ;) We had such a wonderful stay at this boutique hotel that sits on the seam of the Latin Quarter and Saint Germain des Pres arrondissements. Such a vibrant neighborhood, with such a stunning view of the city of love. Took me 50 years to get here, but ….. J’adore Paris!

In revisiting photos from countries past, I can’t In revisiting photos from countries past, I can’t leave out the good ol’ US of A. But I’ve seen way too much of this country to be able to put it into one post. But these photos are from my all-time favorite road trip in the US— the Southwest & national parks. It was the first trip we took after Covid, and we thought it would be best to drive by ourselves and hike through these amazing landscapes alone. We hit Joshua Tree National Park in CA, the Valley of Fire in NV, Zion, Kanara Falls, Bryce Canyon, & Escalante in UT, and ended our trip in Sedona, AZ. and there were so many smaller gems in between, including Kanab, Utah, which was our homebase for most of this trip. This was very hard to whittle down to 20 photos, but these are some of my favorites from this epic USA road trip. >>>>>>

An African Safari had been my no. 1 Bucketlist ite An African Safari had been my no. 1 Bucketlist item for a very long time. And Tanzania delivered in droves!!! (All thanks to my superstar planner & guide at @zohar_african_safaris ). It could not have been a more amazing trip in any way. We saw the Big 5 (all in one day), soared over the Serengeti in a hot air balloon, witnessed the crazy beautiful chaos of the great migration River crossing, and saw the most unbelievably bright red sunrises. We came within 2 feet of lion prides, ate dinner alongside elephants at a watering hole, and had to stop our vehicle multiple times for giraffe crossings. Truly a photographer’s heaven, and the trip of a lifetime…. >>>>

Spain! It’s the birthplace of Spanish guitar, Gaud Spain! It’s the birthplace of Spanish guitar, Gaudi, flamenco, and all importantly, …. Paella! We visited cities along the southern coast— Cadiz, Rhonda, Valencia, and the stunning Barcelona. Barcelona is the one city in Spain that I have visited twice. Once with my parents and their friends about 10 years ago, which was the trip that made me want to go back. During both trips, I visited La Sagrada Familia (Gaudi’s cathedral masterpiece), and both times, I actually wept with overwhelming emotions over the artistry and imagination and creation that exists in humankind. It was honestly that profound. And also, it makes me so sad that we are losing current and future generations to artificial intelligence, when there is so much potential still for immense beauty with each individual’s creative mind, if only it remained the singular tool for art and imagination. >>>>

Morocco was another of my favorite travel experien Morocco was another of my favorite travel experiences. The country is so vastly different from town to town— fortresses along windswept beaches, crazy rock canyons, vibrant colors and narrow streets of the old Medina markets, and the shifting shapes and hues of the amazing Sahara sand dunes. And getting to share all of this with fun friends in a two week road trip, made Morocco one of the most awesome adventures! We also hiked through slot canyons, rode quad bikes and camels, and danced around a bonfire in the middle of the desert, and through a magical garden of pillowed tents and fairy lights. >>>>>>
